Our Story:

The Louis S. Wolk JCC is the epicenter of Jewish life in Western New York. For people here, it’s our second home. It is the place where our grandparents met. Where our parents come to experience cutting-edge arts and culture and where we work out and meet up with friends. And it’s the place where our children learned to swim, first made friends, and went to school for the first time.

We are the one place where all of this comes together in the context of Jewish values, and for many of us, serves as our entry to Jewish life in the Greater Rochester area.

We are more than just fitness and cultural experiences. We are health and well-being, spirituality, self-exploration, lifelong learning, peacefulness- and more importantly- we are personal and for the community as a whole.

We are truly a community center that offers diverse programming and has strong partnerships with community organizations, agencies, and synagogues.

Our presence is known and can be felt beyond our walls. From the life-long friendships created at Camp Seneca Lake, upstate New York’s premier Jewish overnight camp, to the JCC Lane Dworkin Rochester Jewish Book Festival and  JCC Ames Amzalak Rochester Jewish Film Festival that take part throughout our city all year long. We provide a common thread- a commonality- for people within our community and beyond.

Our legacy donors seek to ensure a vibrant, thriving Jewish Community Center in Rochester for generations to come. They are people whose values were shaped by their experiences at the Rochester JCC, and therefore aspire to do the same for others. They grew up in The William and Mildred Levine Building, the Wolk Children’s Center, Camp Seneca Lake and Camp Sisol, Gesher, and in our original building in downtown Rochester.

We are a part of who they are, the lessons they aspire to pass along to others, and what they hope to continue and improve upon for the future of Jewish Rochester.
