The JCC, in partnership with The Opera Guild of Rochester, is pleased to bring you a “listen and lecture” series of three opera movies.

This three-session series will be facilitated by Carol Crocca, director of the Opera Guild of Rochester.

Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte

This Glyndebourne presentation of Mozart and DaPonte’s insightful take on the age-old trope of female inconstancy combines comic antics, cogent drama and moving characterizations. Luca Pisaroni and Miah Persson sing Guglielmo and Fiordiligi, with great acting and singing by the entire cast. If you have seen this opera, but not this production, you are in for a treat.  About 170 minutes

Rossini’s La Cenerentola

This Italian version of Cinderella is a buffa comedy masterpiece, starring some of the true masters of the genre, with Cecelia Bartoli in the title role.  If you are not familiar with it, be prepared for several departures from the traditional – wizardly rather than fairy magic, a wicked step-father, and a bracelet instead of a slipper.  About 156 minutes

Instructor Bio: Carol Crocca

Carol began work for the Guild in 2007 as a lecturer and was elected to the Board shortly after that. She has served on the Executive Committee as Treasurer and then Vice-President for Development and in 2017 was elected President. She continues her roles as Editor of the newsletter and docent. A former attorney, Carol did legal research and writing for (what used to be) Lawyers Cooperative Publishing in Rochester. Carol has also done long-term volunteer work for AFS, an international student exchange organization, and the Rape Crisis service (now “Restore”) of Planned Parenthood, among other organizations. She sings in the Chorus at Oasis, where she has also taught opera courses, studies Italian when she has time, and enjoys her granddaughter, who, so luckily, lives nearby.
