An offbeat, bittersweet comedy that delights and surprises, Karaoke follows Tova and Meir, heading into their 60s, leading comfortable but dull, stale, passionless lives. Their lives are jolted by a charismatic young neighbor, Itzik, and his exciting lifestyle. Basking in his attentive smile, they are rejuvenated and begin to imagine the possibility of a new chapter for themselves. But that’s just the start of this twisty tale, which was nominated for 13 Ophirs (Israeli Academy Awards), including Best Picture and Director. Karaoke focuses on the new Sephardic middle class, a group underrepresented in Israeli film, and features Israeli superstars Lior Ashkenazi, Sasson Gabay, and Rita Shukrun.
