André Masson, an art appraiser, receives a letter from a lawyer claiming that a common worker in a lower income suburb of Mulhouse, France owns a painting by Egon Schiele, the Austrian Expressionist painter. André’s first reaction is to believe that it can only be a fake. Against all odds, the painting turns out to be a masterpiece gone missing in 1939 after being confiscated by the Nazis. Worth millions of dollars, both André and the young man must grapple with their own needs and decide the fate of the painting. Auction is a gorgeous and deeply moving film about honor and truth.
