A sequel to the popular documentary They Ain’t Ready for Me (RJFF 2021) that first introduced us to Chicago’s Rabbi Tamar Manasseh, Rabbi on the Block focuses on Tamar’s tireless efforts to end ignorance by uncovering the largely unknown but powerfully compelling and surprisingly long history of African American Judaism. With one foot firmly in each of these two communities, Tamar is the natural bridge to help overcome decades of fear, misunderstanding, and lack of communication. With verité intimacy, filmmaker Brad Rothschild shows how one woman’s fearless commitment to social justice can move mountains, one block at a time.
