SHTTL

Wednesday, August 2, 8:15pm; Dryden Theatre

Narrative | 2023 | 109 min.
Yiddish (w/ subtitles) | Ukraine
Director: Ady Walter

Filmed in a single remarkable shot, SHTTL presents a day in the life of a Jewish village before it disappears. It is the story of the inhabitants of a Yiddish-Ukrainian village at the border of Poland, 24 hours before the Nazi invasion, known as Operation Barbarossa. SHTTL depicts the vitality and vibrancy of lives about to be destroyed. Featuring a stellar cast, including Moshe Lobel (Off-Broadway’s Yiddish Fiddler on the Roof), the production constructed a complete replica of a traditional shtetl outside of Kyiv for filming. The set was to be turned into a museum but has since been destroyed in the ongoing war in Ukraine.
