Director: Giuseppe Piccioni
Set in the 1930s in the picturesque town of Ascoli Piceno, Italy, The Shadow of the Day is a dramatic and gripping love story. Luciano, a wounded WWI veteran and a fascist sympathizer, runs a local restaurant. He believes he can live his life according to his own set of rules. But when Anna appears looking for work, her dangerous secret sends them in an unexpected direction. Among the many dangers they face, including the onset of WWII, there is the greatest danger of all: love. Giuseppe Piccioni’s thoughtful melodrama reflects on fascism and the pre-war atmosphere of control and isolation.
