This nuanced character study explores a young marriage in peril, unraveling under extortion and crises of faith. Bati, a seemingly blessed wife and mother in Jerusalem’s ultra-Orthodox community, is shattered to learn her husband Lazer is being blackmailed over intimate photos with a male Torah study partner. Desperate to save her marriage, she tries to “cure” him but is ultimately forced to confront her own desires. With moments of levity amid sensitive, character-driven storytelling derived from screenwriter Mindi Ehrlich’s lived experience in the Hasidic world, this film boldly addresses taboo topics.
Mature content.
