Wellness Wednesday – Mastering Balance for Everyday Life
RRH Wellness Wednesdays feature Rochester Regional clinicians and experts sharing their experiences and knowledge in an effort to improve your health and wellness, and to help connect you with specialists when you’re interested in individualized care. Check each week for the new topic!
Maggie Burdick, Certified Personal Trainer, works with clients at the JCC. She will be joining us for Wellness Wednesday this week along with Clinical Associate Professor of Nazarath University, Season Bonino, PT, DPT, GCS. Professor Bonino works out of the Physical Therapy department at Nazarath and is a Geriatric Certified Specialist.
In this session, we’ll explore the often-overlooked connection between strength and balance, especially as we age. We’ll break down the key systems that contribute to balance—vestibular, visual, and somatosensory—and discuss common balance strategies like the ankle, hip, and stepping responses. Through real-life examples, you’ll learn how to recognize when your balance is challenged and how to train it effectively. If you are someone looking to stay steady on your feet, this presentation offers insights to improved stability, reducing fall risk, and building confidence in everyday movement.
We’d love to hear from you! Send your comments, suggestions, and questions to [email protected]
