RRH Wellness Wednesday – The Opioid Epidemic & Narcan Administration Training
RRH Wellness Wednesday – The Opioid Epidemic & Narcan Administration Training
Wednesday, June 10 | 12:15–1:00 p.m.
In Person: Auditorium A at the JCC
Also Recorded on Zoom
Please join for an informative and necessary educational session on addiction and how the Monroe County Department of Public Health is working hard to help our people stay safe. A public health representative will be joining us to discuss Narcan and how to use it. Narcan (naloxone) training is a 30 to 60-minute session that empowers you to save lives. You will learn how the opioid epidemic affects the area, how to recognize an overdose, and how to properly administer the life-saving nasal spray.
What You Will Learn
- Identifying an Overdose: How to spot the signs, such as unconsciousness, slow/shallow breathing, choking sounds, and blue/purple lips or fingernails.
- Administering Narcan: Step-by-step instructions on how to use the ready-to-use nasal spray device and how to place the person in a recovery position.
- NYS Laws & Good Samaritan Protections: An overview of laws protecting you from liability and drug possession prosecution when calling for help.
- Local Resources: How to access the county’s [Naloxone Box Map](url: https://www.monroecounty.gov/health-narcan-map) and where to get additional support.
At the end of the in-person, you will receive a free Opioid Overdose Prevention Kit (which includes two doses of Narcan) and a Certificate of Completion.
Community members do not need to be JCC members to attend. These sessions are free and open to the public as part of Rochester Regional Health’s commitment to empowering and supporting the health of our community.
Registration is required. You may register online in advance or sign in the same day at check-in. We never want registration to be a barrier—everyone is welcome.
Zoom is available for those who cannot attend in person.
