The Worst Day Ever: The End-Cretaceous Extinction Event
Join us for coffee, tea, and science! We’re thrilled to partner with the Rochester Academy of Science to bring you a series of interesting talks from professional scientists. Sit back, have some coffee/tea, and enjoy learning.
Our February speaker is Michael Grenier, President of the Rochester Academy of Science. Michael will cover what we know about what happened during and after the asteroid impact 66 million years ago and how we know it, based on worldwide research. The Chicxulub asteroid impact causing the end-Cretaceous mass extinction event is now overwhelmingly accepted within the scientific community, though it was contentious for a long time.
Michael is a Cretaceous paleontology and paleoecology specialist with many summers’ experience in the field and is a long-time member of the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology. He has his Bachelors degree in Geology form the University of Rochester and his Masters degree in Geology from SUNY Buffalo.
