Wellness Wednesday – Updates in Mammography + Monthly Plant Based Pot-Luck

Join us as we continue to honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month with Dr. Ram. Dr. Shruthi Ram is the section chief of the Division of Breast Imaging at Rochester General Hospital, Unity Hospital, and Newark Wayne Community Hospital. Dr. Ram will educate us on the latest updates on breast cancer screening and mammography guidelines for 2025.

While women over age 40 typically qualify for screening, there are many factors that can influence when and how often screening should occur. Dr. Ram will review evidence-based practices for individuals with genetic mutations, a strong family history of breast cancer, a personal history of prior breast disease, or other potential risk factors. She will also highlight the advanced mammography technology available through Rochester Regional Health, including 3D tomosynthesis, which enhances early detection and diagnostic accuracy.

Don’t miss this important session focused on empowering women with knowledge and tools to take charge of their breast health.

This program is free and open to the community. Participants do not have to be a member of the JCC to join in person or on Zoom.

Zoom is available for those who cannot attend in person.

The evidence surrounding the benefits of a more plant predominate diet continues to emerge for preventing a number of chronic diseases including heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Did you know consuming beans, legumes, fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and whole grains can help you live longer and have improved quality of life, all from plants! Evidence based research shows plants help aid in brain health, energy level, weight loss, GI issues, improved immunity, enhance sleep and the list goes on and on. Variety is key and new research shows we should be aiming for 30 different types of plants each week.

Whether you’re a seasoned plant-based eater or just curious about incorporating more whole foods into your diet, this is a welcoming space to enjoy great food, swap recipes and build community.
