RRH Wellness Wednesdays feature Rochester Regional clinicians and experts sharing their experiences and knowledge in an effort to improve your health and wellness, and to help connect you with specialists when you’re interested in individualized care. Check each week for the new topic!
Join us for this weeks Wellness Wednesday, presented by Susan Jackson, PA-C, a physician assistant from the Gastroenterology Department at Rochester Regional Health currently practicing in Newark.
A graduate of the RIT PA Program (Class of 2011), Susan grew up on a family farm in Sodus, NY, where she developed a passion for wellness and preventative medicine. Her work is driven by a commitment to making healthcare screenings accessible to all. Susan’s presentation, titled “You Are What You Eat,” will explore the connection between diet, overall health, and gastrointestinal wellness—offering practical insights into how your food choices can directly impact your digestive health. As a single mother of two boys, Susan enjoys spending time outdoors and with her family. Her engaging and relatable approach to health makes this a must-attend event!
In Rochester Regional Lifestyle Medicine, we teach patients how to incorporate more plants in their diet on a regular basis.
The evidence surrounding the benefits of a more plant predominate diet continues to emerge for preventing a number of chronic diseases including heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Did you know consuming beans, legumes, fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and whole grains can help you live longer and have improved quality of life, all from plants! Evidence based research shows plants help aid in brain health, energy level, weight loss, GI issues, improved immunity, enhance sleep and the list goes on and on. Variety is key and new research shows we should be aiming for 30 different types plants per week.
Whether you’re a seasoned plant-based eater or just curious about incorporating more whole foods into your diet, this is a welcoming space to enjoy great food, swap recipes and build community. Please bring list of ingredients and/or recipe to help those with dietary preferences or allergies. Come hungry, bring a dish and let’s enjoy good company and foods that are proven to heal our body!
