Rapunzel

March 29 – April 6, 2025

Book and lyrics by David Crane and Marta Kauffman
Music by Michael Skloff
Commissioned and originally produced by Theatreworks USA

A modern adaptation of the long-haired princess and her climbing suitor, hilariously written by the creators of Friends and Veronica’s Closet. An uber-witty, tongue-in-cheek retelling of the famous fairytale, Rapunzel is the very first show TYKEs ever created! We’ve never repeated a show title in TYKEs’ entire history — until now! To celebrate our 20th anniversary, we’re bringing this comedic show that launched TYKEs two decades ago — one of our favorite shows of all time — to a new generation of audience members! Ages 4+

Crafted from the actual testimonies of Rochester-based Holocaust Survivors, CenterStage Theatre and the Louis S. Wolk Jewish Community Center of Greater Rochester commissioned this new play to put a human face on this important time in history. A cautionary tale on the risks of normalized hate, this inspirational and uplifting play ensures that the voices of our Survivors will never be silenced.

SURVIVORS is available for tours to middle schools, high schools, colleges, and community organizations.
The play is also available for licensing.
