The Perfect Dog

March 9–17, 2024

Music and Lyrics by David Abbinanti
Book by Jill Abbinanti-Burke
Inspired by the book The Perfect Dog by John O’Hurley

Sam, a twelve-year-old perfectionist, is searching for a flawless dog to enter in the town’s dog contest. Unable to find a canine that measures up, Sam must resort to training the family dog Max, who is more interested in chasing balls than obeying commands. In the end, Sam and Max learn that there is no such thing as perfect, but there is such a thing as being perfect for each other. Humans of all ages will love this hilarious and heartwarming musical about perfectionism, friendship and acceptance of others. Ages 4+

Crafted from the actual testimonies of Rochester-based Holocaust Survivors, CenterStage Theatre and the Louis S. Wolk Jewish Community Center of Greater Rochester commissioned this new play to put a human face on this important time in history. A cautionary tale on the risks of normalized hate, this inspirational and uplifting play ensures that the voices of our Survivors will never be silenced.

SURVIVORS is available for tours to middle schools, high schools, colleges, and community organizations.
The play is also available for licensing.

2024 KidStage Summer Theater

A fabulous month of theatre for kids entering 3rd to 6th grade!

CSN: Back by popular demand!
July 29–August 2
KidStage campers invent their own quirky, wacky summer toys and foods, then film TV commercial spoofs extolling their clever benefits on CSN (our Camp Shopping Network). The sky’s the limit to our campers’ creativity!

Starring…YOU!
August 5–16 (two-week session)
We’ll rehearse and perform a fabulous play for friends and family on August 15 and an encore show for the whole camp on August 16.

Once Upon a Punchline
August 19–23
One of our most popular KidStage programs returns for another summer! Campers work together to brainstorm crazy, fun ideas as they create their own originally comical fractured fairy tale.

Meet Alyssa Blodgett
Alyssa leads our program this summer, sharing her 20 years of acting experience. A California actor with dual degrees in both Music and in Theatre, you might recognize her from her stint on Brooklyn 99 – and our school-age program!
