RRH Wellness Wednesday – TMJ with Margaret Fitzpatrick PT, DPT
What is TMJ?
The temporomandibular joints are the hinges connecting your jaw to your skull. When these joints or surrounding muscles become irritated, it can lead to TMJ disorders.
Common signs of TMJ include:
-
Jaw pain or stiffness
-
Clicking or popping when opening the mouth
-
Headaches or facial pain
-
Ear discomfort or ringing
-
Difficulty chewing or opening the mouth fully
Why this matters for older adults:
Changes in posture, arthritis, dental work, stress, or nighttime teeth grinding can all contribute to TMJ symptoms. Many people live with discomfort without realizing help is available.
