Sip & Science: Exoplanets

What do we know about exoplanets-and how?

Join astronomer Michael Richmond from Rochester Academy of Science and RIT to learn about this fascinating topic.

In our own solar system, eight (or is it nine?) planets orbit around the Sun, and one serves as the host of life.  Our galaxy is filled with billions of stars; could they also host planets of their own?  Might some of those planets have conditions suitable for the evolution of life?   Over the past three decades, astronomers have discovered thousands of exoplanets, and we are starting to measure their properties with some precision.  Michael Richmond will explain how scientists can detect these exoplanets and summarize what we know about them.
