The Story of Us-Now Online-The Digitization of Jewish Rochester’s Historic Newspapers
An interactive presentation + workshop with Joy Getnick, PhD
Did you know that Jewish Rochester has two historic newspapers?
The Jewish Tidings was an English language Jewish newspaper published 1887-1894, and long-time beloved The Jewish Ledger ran 1924-2020.
Thanks to support from the Rochester Area Community Foundation and generous community members, and in partnership with the Rochester Public Library, these historic newspapers – and in their pages, the story of our Jewish community – are now available for free on-line!
Come hear Joy Getnick, PhD, share how this project came to be.
Then spend time on your own device learning how to search these papers, and find historical gems about your family, friends, beloved community institutions, and even yourself!
Please bring your laptop, ipad or tablet, or smart phone and make sure to charge your device prior to arriving!
Volunteers will be there to assist with tech needs.
