Chocolate, Empire, and Survival: A Tasting Through Jewish History

Jewish history is long and complex, but intrinsically connected to the story of chocolate. In this interactive class, we will taste our way through the history of the relationship between chocolate and Judaism. From crypto-Jews in the Mexican Inquisition to colonial Jewish business leaders and Jewish holidays – during this workshop, we will explore the deep bond between Jewish people and the story of chocolate. The workshop includes 8 chocolate samples, a cacao bean, and an engaging discussion!

About our presenter:
Ever the chocoholic, Lindsay started the socially conscious business Laughing Gull Chocolates in 2014. Inspired to change the world with chocolate, she aims to find a sustainable way to bring chocolate to our community. Lindsay’s knowledge stems from academic studies, hands-on experience eating and making chocolate, as well as visiting cacao farms. Laughing Gull Chocolates pushes the boundaries of flavors in its chocolate confections, and the chocolaterie aims to bring community together through its chocolates, drinks and other pairings.
